ALL WE REALLY NEED Sitting on my sofa watching TV Dunking gingernuts in my tea Feeling annoyed at what is advertised Telling me I won’t be satisfied Feeding my FOMO, targeting my pride… Manipulating me to buy, buy, buy… CHORUS: All we really need is food and water All we really need is oxygen All we really need is warmth and shelter All we really need is love All we really need is You… Sitting in my office working on my PC Dunking gingernuts in my tea Surfing online to find new tricks Marketing strategies tryin’ to make me click Feeding my FOMO, targeting my pride… Manipulating me to buy, buy, buy… BRIDGE: The best things in life are free The best things in life aren’t things CODA: Contentment isn’t having what you want It’s wanting what you have And I want you… © 2019 Raymond John Salisbury, Lighthouse Audio, 12 November 2019

Road Trip 03:13
ROAD TRIP Paying for the petrol And a coffee to go Flying far beyond the blue horizon Winding down the window Turning up the radio White lines on the highway lead us on BRIDGE: Our-GPS tells us our location But God only knows our destination CHORUS: Life is like a road trip, an epic odyssey It can’t go on forever, it’s temporary Driving through this crazy world Into the great unknown Death is just a way to bring us home When the-sun sinks to the sea And the needle dips to ‘E’ The twin beams of our headlights show the way Wipers drone like a metronome So far away from home Out here on the open highway BRIDGE: Our-GPS tells us our location But God only knows our destination © 26 March 2020 Raymond John Salisbury, Lighthouse Audio,

COVID-19 BLUES Shops & schools are shut down Families in lockdown Elderly are knocked down too... People in depression Business in recession TV’s only got bad news... CHORUS: We’re in quarantine from Covid Nineteen It’s more contagious than the flu... There’s no vaccine for Covid Nineteen It seems like a bad dream comin’ true... Well, it’s 2020… got the Covid Nineteen blues... Politicians in control Police are on patrol People are forced to work from home The country’s closed for business We keep our social distance We’re in this fight together all alone… We’re prisoners in paradise We’re learning how to compromise Will life on Earth ever be the same? Don’t care about the weather ‘cause we’re spending time together Eating our rations and playing board games… © 1 April 2020 Ray Salisbury | Lighthouse Audio | Nelson, New Zealand

SONG OF DEFIANCE REFRAIN: WE WILL NOT BOW DOWN (x3) WE’LL NEVER GIVE IN To their graven images, that flash across our TV screen To their fallen princesses, picture-perfect beauty queens To their grand idolatry, to materialistic greed To their mindless purchasing of possessions they don’t need To their hero-worshipping, man-made legends built on sand To their false humility, social justice partisans To their professed tolerance, to their blatant compromise To their hatred of the truth, to the darkness in their eyes To their dark philosophy, posing as scientific fact To their blind hypocrisy, where democracy is hi-jacked CODA: This is our song of defiance Our hearts will not give in to fear In the spirit realm we’re giants This is the anthem we declare: © Lighthouse Audio | 2010 | Raymond John Salisbury, Nelson, New Zealand

Whip Words 03:26
WHIP WORDS CHORUS: Whip Words! They call you names Whip Words! Fear, guilt, shame Whip Words! They pass the blame Whip Words! Whip Words! It’s a trial by media, public shaming Sharks are circling, whistle blowers naming Facebook is the gallows,Twitter is the noose Some poor fellow is gonna lose it all There are no second chances, no right of reply Reputations ruined by a litany of lies No one even dares to question ‘why?’ Why? MIDDLE 8: The PC Police are shutting us down; We whisper through the fences The PC Police are cutting us down; We’ve lost our common senses BRIDGE: If you doubt Darwin’s theories, you’re a ‘Science Denier’ If you question the moonlandings of ‘69… you’re a ‘Conspiracy Theorist’ (and that’s not okay) If you wonder who shot JFK, you’re ‘Unpatriotic’ (and that’s not okay) If you go to church on Sundays, you’re a ‘Fundamental’ If you have a moral code, you’re ‘Judgemental’ If you don’t like gay marriage, you’re a ‘Homophobic’ (and that’s not okay) So they say… © 7 January 2020 Raymond John Salisbury, Lighthouse Audio, Nelson, New Zealand

Irony 03:47
IRONY It’s against the law to smack our children But we can kill them (half a million) We’re coming down on child abuse But it’s no use if they’re not human Our suicide rate is super high But euthanasia is legalized Marijuana slows the mind But if you’re sick, well, that’s just fine Our sporting teams are winning with a smile We’re hiding behind our pixelated profiles CHORUS: We’re shooting rockets up into the atmosphere But down on the surface we are paralysed by fear We are overweight, we are addicted to our phones We are so connected but We’ve never been so alone Our national birth rate is falling low We need immigration; insemination Children are exposed to indecent video Gay is okay, but they’ve stolen the rainbow Our tourist industry is so fantastic But our coastline is full of plastic Our mountain glaciers are retreating We blame the cows for their excreting Everything is PC; neo-Marxist policy; intolerance cannot be tolerated Everyone’s included; if you are inclusive; you must conform or you will be hated © 2 January 2020 Raymond John Salisbury, Lighthouse Audio, Nelson, NZ.

Finding Fire 04:24
FINDING FIRE When I was sixteen, I got my first guitar We stayed up late singing til we could see the stars Music was a magnet, coffee kept us wired Nothing else mattered much, this was our one desire CHORUS: We were the first to find fire We felt so good, so inspired We stumbled onto something that satisfied our thirst Like a new discovery in our backyard universe We were the first to find fire Now I am a cynic, my passion's faded My heart's not in it, no, my soul is jaded But when we gather round that ol' guitar and sing The magic of the music has my mind remembering: CHORUS: We were the first to find fire We felt so good, so inspired We stumbled onto something that satisfied our thirst Like a new discovery in our backyard universe We were the first - we thought we were the first To find fire © 2020 Raymond John Salisbury, Lighthouse Audio, Nelson, NZ

WHEN MORNING COMES Looking at my photographs when we were kids at school We were both the teacher's pets; we suffered ridicule You played violin, sang alto in the choir Nothing much to look at girl (that boys would desire) Did you become a working girl and lose your self esteem? Did you become a solo mum by the time you were 18? CHORUS: I wonder where you are today, and who you're keeping company Did your destiny take you far away? I wonder who you are tonight, and what you have become Who is sleeping by your side when morning comes? When morning comes Looking at my photographs when I first taught school You looked so self confident; I felt like a fool Your infectious, sexy smile was gonna get you through You were a child of promise; we held high hopes for you Did you become a sporting star and build your muscle tone? Did you become an architect and build your dream home? © 2020 Raymond John Salisbury, Lighthouse Audio, Nelson, NZ

BEAUTIFUL DAY Somehow you have lost your mind Left your common sense behind Was it something I said wrong? Were you hiding secrets all along? Turned your back on my affection Traded love for self-protection CHORUS: My love, I’m missing you so much Since the day you ran away from me My love, I’m longing for your touch One day, you’ll come running home to me One day, one beautiful day We were soulmates for so long We were singing the same song We were praying the same prayer We were breathing the same air Turn your heart to my affection Trust me for your protection ©19 January 2020 Raymond John Salisbury, Lighthouse Audio, Nelson, New Zealand

about

Cut off from the outside world during the global Covid-19 pandemic, Ray Salisbury began work on his third 'rock album.'

The central theme of this collection is the author's angst over Political Correctness, Click-bait Marketing, Consumerism, Materialism, the rise of Humanism and the blind worship of Science. Ray has found peace of mind through his faith, and found contentment in the simple stuff of life.

'Contentment isn't having what you want. It's wanting what you have.'

But if politics ain't your thing .... there are also retrospective ballads about his school days, unrequited love, and of course, a blues number from deep in the depths of Lockdown. Here's the video of this:
